Giscome Lime Plant and Quarry Project on Hold

Prince George, BC, December 6, 2007 Graymont has put both the environmental assessment process and the public consultation process for its proposed Giscome lime plant and quarry (announced in May 2007) on hold pending the clarification of the Government of British Columbia’s regulatory approach for greenhouse gases.  Although the proposed Giscome Lime plant would use the most energy efficient lime kiln technology in the world and would be able to utilize alternative fuel sources, uncertainty around the approach to greenhouse gas regulation has created serious concern in moving forward at this time.

Graymont continues to believe the project is the right thing to do from an environmental, greenhouse gas and business perspective and intends to work with the province to find a solution to this complex issue that allows all parties to meet their objectives.
