Detailed Description:
The Tacoma PCC plant is adjacent to the existing lime kiln. Situated in the Pacific Northwest, it is ideally located to provide a consistent supply of PCC products to meet the growing needs of this area's paper industry. Over the years it has been expanded five times to its present nominal capacity of 180,000 tons/year, making it one of the largest PCC plants in North America. This plant is an open market plant, meaning it supplies multiple customers; it has dewatering capabilities to minimize shipping costs and it is able to manufacture a full range of scalenohedral and acid tolerant PCC products. Graymont's Tacoma PCC plant currently produces several different products for five paper companies operating seven separate mills in the surrounding area. It can ship PCC via truck, rail or barge. Its barge fleet is designed to economically transport both limestone and high-solids PCC slurry. This value-added capability provides competitive customer delivery and ensures a consistent, reliable product supply. The St. Helens PCC plant provides additional product capacity to meet the demand of the regional PCC markets.
